janet's journey

I thought it time that I actually wrote down my thoughts, dreams, and hopes. Perhaps share some of what I've learned. Maybe someone will be encouraged, comforted (Life is better in community), or just amused.

Soaring Solo

Some time ago, I heard a story about eagles, hens, and barnyards. It talks about the dangers of eagles trying to live in barnyards. Not pretty seeing that eagles are birds of prey. Scripture tells us that they that wait upon the Lord will mount up on wings as eagles. It made me pay more attention to the description and life of the eagle. One spring, I had the opportunity to visit Glen Eyrie in Colorado. I saw a real eagle's nest way up high on a cliff. So majestic. I learned that eagles must fly high to survive. They have to build their nests up high to protect their young and teach the eaglet to fly. They spot their food from high places. Eagles can't live in barnyards, they would wreak havoc and destruction. But high in the air they are rare and beautiful. The child of God is to be seated, planted, and living in High Places. Eagles mate for life. God is a jealous God, and will share us with no other. I used to wonder, even cry, about why I could never fit in. Why am I so different from other people, even in the church? Scripture says that we are a peculiar people. In another place it says that we are not to be conformed to this world. God doesn't mean for me to ever 'fit in'. I am to train my child, this precious son, up on a high cliff, until he is ready to fly. No eagle would raise her young in a barnyard. No, we share God's DNA, and we belong among the high places. There I must teach Ben to soar, faithful to the only God on High.
